Yep, that's right. I fell off the wagon and now I need to pick myself back up and dust myself off and keep on moving in the RIGHT direction. I just got frustrated losing and gaining the same 2-4 pounds. I have been doing some reading and I am going to try and tweak my food to work in my favor.
I need to step it up and bring some new recipes into the mix since I have to stay away from salads and green vegetables for medical purposes. It is harder than I thought to stay away from those things. I was really into my salads before I decided to have the catheter ablation done on my heart. I never knew lettuce had so much of a nutrient value. If you are wondering what I am talking about don't worry, I will tell you.
If you have to have an catheter ablation done you need to be on blood thinners. Your pro-time levels (test are also known as PT or prothrombin) need to be between 2 and 3 for at least three weeks before they will even do the procedure. They did tell me so stay away from green vegetables but like I said I never realized how many nutrients lettuce has to screw that up. The nutrient to watch out for is Vitamin K.
Vitamin K is a fat soluble vitamin used in the body to control blood clotting. Green leafy
vegetables are among the best sources of vitamin K. Vitamin K rich foods decrease the
effects of Coumadin (also known as Warfarin), so Vitamin K intake should be consistent so the dose of coumadin is right.
Vitamin K rich foods include:
• Liver
• Parsley
• Green tea
• Cauliflower
• Cabbage
• Chick peas
• Broccoli
• Mustard greens, collards and turnips
• Kale
• Brussels sprouts
• Alfalfa sprouts
• Soybeans
• Spinach
• Swiss chard
• Cottonseed, canola and olive oil
• Swiss Chard
• Coriander
• Cheddar cheese
Things to know....
• Sudden increases in Vitamin K may decrease the effect of Coumadin
• Sudden decreases in Vitamin K may increase the effect of Coumadin
• Watch how often you eat Vitamin K rich foods
• Watch how much you eat of Vitamin K rich foods

Now that I have my pro-time levels where they need to be at I am going to avoid these vegetables as much as possible. I do not want to prolong the procedure any more than I have to. After the procedure I will need to stay on the blood thinners for 2-3 months. I look forward to a productive procedure. The atrial fibrillation can be quite annoying. You never know when it will strike, how long it will last, and what is going to work to get you back to normal. I have had to have cardioversion (defibrillator) 4 times to make my heart return to normal rhythm and pace. Medications did not work for me.
So that leaves me with pretty much only meat and eggs to eat on the low carb diet I am following. It can get pretty tiresome pretty quick. If you have any recipes to share contact me and I will link to them or post them to my blog. I do prefer that they be created by you to be able to post them here. I also would prefer to get permission to link to recipes from the creater themselves. Just give me the info and I will go from there. Have a great day!
